Fashion Photography

If you have ever purchased various fashion magazines, chances are you look at some pictures in awe, and wonder how some of the models and the clothing can look so perfect. Fashion photography all starts with a concept. For example, a famous designer is promoting their latest spring fashions, so the goal of fashion photography is to make the fashions looks as desirable as possible so that they will be purchased.
The casting for models is the job of a modeling agency. Or, the designer has a favorite model and requests that they be part of the fashion photography session. Fashion photography sessions are quite meticulous, and often last the entire day. If you are thinking about buying some fashionable clothing, fashion photography is a great way to give you some ideas.
Do you want to be a fashion photographer? A fashion photographer must be good in two photography disciplines. Selling is the key - the fashion photographer must be able to sell his images to the fashion editor. Fashion photography is advertising and selling clothes.
To set up a portfolio you first must hire a model. Contacting your local modelling agencies can do this. You don't need to hire a well-known model for your fashion portfolio - you need someone who will act well in front of the camera. Some models can be tough to work with so people psychology will play an important part. If you have previously published work - use them as a statement with the picture editors. You need to establish a good working relationship with all fashion editors that you'll be working with. Fashion photo editors are looking for concise images that clearly communicate an idea. You must, as a fashion photographer, have the ability to create unique settings.
Photo agencies exist to sell photographers images - some of the larger fashion agencies have buyers all over the world. If a fashion editor has no interest in your work - don't worry - try contacting different magazines or agencies - most great photographers have their work rejected some time during their career.
Go out and take some pictures of models. Start with an internet search to find model websites. After you become comfortable taking pictures of amateur models and have some great photographs in your book approach local modeling agencies by giving them a call or sending and email and ask to shoot their models for their portfolios. In time you will be able to shoot as well as the photographers in the magazines you want to shoot for. Social networking sites are great for this as great fashion photographers, fashion designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, magazines and photo editors can be found online. Man made the picture and the picture made the man. Keep shooting. The road to becoming a successful fashion photographer can be a long one.

Photograp Animal

It is an accepted fact that photographing Animals is reserved for the brave hearted - with oodles of patience and possibly some encouragement from Jack Daniels.
The truth is if you're shooting in a controlled environment, you'll most probably have your camera mounted on a tripod with a bunch of assistants moving in and out tweaking the lights, dressing the shot meticulously through the lens creating a relaxed environment. The classic studio shoot.
Hitting a static target at the shooting range is difficult enough, but it takes a special skill to hit the same target if it's on the move. Instead of the luxury of a composed lit frame with exact apertures and wide lenses, you are thrown into unpredictable moves that directly impact on your film speed, your focus, the amount of available light and the choice of lens. If your subject is moving fast you have to frame, focus and fire on the fly (as they say) the majority of time, hoping to God you got it.

Longer lenses need more light than wider lenses. Most wide angle lenses have apertures of between 1.8 and 2.8, whereas 300 to 500mm lenses start with an aperture of between 5.6 & 11- so you do need light. If you really want to learn about composition and action framing, take yourself and your camera off to the local sports stadium and snap at athletes or baseball players in action - it'll be your first step to shooting wildlife stills.
